Founded by the Sonthalia family in 1968 to serve the Public Health Engineering Directorate of West Bengal. Today we design, build, and operate the treatment plants, pipelines, pumphouses, and monitoring systems that deliver drinking water to communities across the state.

From finding the source to putting water in a household tap, our nine capability areas cover every stage of a rural water supply scheme. We design, build, install, commission, and operate.

Almost everything we've built has been for the Public Health Engineering Directorate, Government of West Bengal. Three generations of the Sonthalia family have worked with successive PHED engineers to design, install, and operate water infrastructure across the state's rural districts — from Sundarban to the northern hills.
"We think in decades, not quarters — because a village water scheme has to last as long."See our project history with PHED
We're building a cloud-connected monitoring dashboard for the water networks we operate. Real-time telemetry from every pump and bulk flowmeter, faults flagged the moment they happen, and historical performance trends — all in one place. View-only, secure, always on.
Jal Pravahika has been part of our village water schemes for as long as I've been in the department. They show up on the smallest job with the same seriousness they bring to the largest.[Testimonial placeholder]Executive Engineer · PHED, Government of West Bengal
